Types of Singing Bowls

You might have seen different types of singing bowls in the market and you might be confused on which bowl is perfect for you. Each of the bowl has its own unique sound and healing properties.Ā So, you can choose the bowl based on your need and preferences. You canĀ use different types of singing bowls for different mindfulness activities such as mediation, healing and relaxation.
1. Ulti - Bati

Ulti Bati is the unique and distinct types of singing bowl, where āUltiā translates to opposite, and āBatiā means bowl. It is called Ulti or opposite bowl because normally the typical bowls has inward curved or straight rim. As its name suggests, the edge or rim of the Ulti Bati is curved outward or opposite making it distinct from other bowls. The outer part of the bowl is black coated while its inner part is shiny and has a golden color. It generally has thin walls and has very flat base which enhance its vibrational properties. We mostly use Ulti Bati for various vibrational therapies and aura cleansing practices.
2. Lingam Bowl

Lingam Bowl is the unique bowl which is used in Hindu and Buddhist rituals. It is also known as the masculine bowl as they have a protrusion (lingam) in the centre. Due to that navel-like shape protrusion, it is associated with the Hindu god Shiva. This type of bowl is known for its extraordinary sound quality. Lingam Bowls are very rare to find and can be a little expensive as well
3. Mani Bowl

Mani bowl is one of the best bowls with pure sound. It is also known as the elephant foot bowl due to its appearance. The walls are very thick due to which it is easier to play and have good, and crispy sound. The ancient Mani bowls were first recorded in the late 16th to 19th century. Earlier, it was used by the monks to collect food during alms round. Similarly, monks also used Mani bowl for mediation hence it is known as meditation bowl. Ā Ā
4. Naga Bowl

Naga bowl, also known as pedestal bowls, has a chalice-like appearance. Naga bowl has a rounded bottom and an attached pedestal. Due to its pedestal, it is easier to hold and can hover around with ease. Due to its design, it can resonate longer as less surface area of the bowl covers the ground when it is placed, reducing friction, and dampening the vibrations. In essence, the sound and the vibration resonate freely and for a long period of time. It creates pure tone loved by many practitioners for meditation, sound healing and relaxation purposes.
5. Manipur Bowl

It is believed to be originated from the place named Manipur of India, so it is named as Manipur bowl. It has wide open mouth and has a very small base. It is generally thin and can be very decorated or plain in design. It is mostly used for sound but can be used for the vibration as well.
6. Unique/Tantric Bowl

As its name suggest, unique bowl is one of the very unique types of signing bowl. It has been used in different tantric practices for centuries, so it is also known as tantric bowl. It is shaped like a cooking pot. Unique bowl has a very rich and powerful sound that helps to balance the energy in your body. It is also considered to be the rarest bowl as it is very difficult to find on the market.
7. Kupre Bati

The term Kupre means ābentā in Nepali. It is named as Kupre Bati because the rim and walls of these bowls are little curved inside with the flat base. Similar to Thado bati, it is used for sound as well as vibration.
8. Thado Bati

Thado in Nepali means āstraightā. It is called Thado bati as the rim and wall of the bowl is relatively vertical or straight and the base is wide flat. The walls of this type of bowl are generally thinner. Likewise, it can be used for sound as well as for the vibration which makes it one of the special bowls.
